Carbon is a non-metallic and tetravalent chemical element available in abundance on our planet. Its unique diversity of organic compounds and its unusual ability to form polymers serve as a common element of all known life.
The allotropes of carbons are chemically resistant and require high temperature to react even with oxygen. This makes carbon most suitable for wide industrial applications in Steel Industry, Foundries, Aluminum smelting, Carbon electrode, Ferro alloys etc. Carbon additives are also added to the furnace during melting stage to maintain and regulate the percentage of Carbon in liquid steel.
The various form of carbon used in the industrial applications are,
- CPC (Calcined Pet Coke)
- ECA (Electrically Calcined Anthracite)
- GCA (Gas Calcined Anthracite)
- GPC (Graphitized Pet Coke)
- Coal Tar Pitch
- Carbon Electrode Paste
